The Gunnison River is an awesome place to SUP if you’re looking for a little bit more advanced stretch of the river. Going with a guide is a great way to navigate new waters. Not only are they there to give you technique and safety instruction, but they also give you insider info on water conditions, put-in and pull-out spots, and more. All of our guided tours also include a shuttle to and from the river for your entire party!
What to expect: the river is moving pretty fast right now but the second stretch is riding really well. The second stretch is a super fun section - it will definitely challenge your SUP skills, but also has a flowy vibe with mellow sections. The slower moving areas allow you to relax and hang out with friends, while the quicker moving sections give you a taste for whitewater and satisfy even the most adventurous in any group! We offer bootie rentals if you tend to get cold feet, and also have phone cases and dry bags for anything you might want to bring along.
The Gunnison River Whitewater Park: located about a mile from downtown Gunnison on Highway 50. It’s a several hundred foot man made section of rocks and boulders used to create a series of currents, eddies, holes, and riffles. It’s the perfect spot to practice your whitewater skills, and also a super fun spot to hang out and enjoy the sun! Join us for one of our FREE demo nights on our river surfer boards.
