Our Pedego Rental Bikes:

(Beta) Local Information on where to ride your electric bike

Taking out one of our Pedego electric bikes? Be aware that Crested Butte has a huge biking community. To maintain a safe and nice environment for visitors, locals, other vehicles and for wildlife, please adhere to these guidelines. Bike manners on trails and roads are key for e-bikes to continue to be allowed. They are fairly new to Crested Butte and we want to set a good precedent.

In Gunnison these e-bikes are allowed on roads and on motorized trails. In Crested Butte, the rec path allows pedal assist e-bikes, so please do not use the throttle while riding the rec path. Make sure to use good trail etiquette while riding the e-bike. Be wary of pedestrians on trails as well as other bikers. E-bikes are not allowed on non-motorized trails, this includes the Lower Loop trail, Lupine, 401, and various others. The All Trails and Trailforks apps are good for picking out E-bike approved trails. We can also guide you to the right trails.

E-Bike Etiquette

Bike manners on trails and roads are key for e-bikes to continue to be allowed. They are fairly new to Crested Butte and Gunnison and we want to set a good precedent.

  • Respect Private Property

Respect Private Property and do not tresspass. Most places will be gaurded with a gate or signage so please be aware and avoid these areas.

  • Be Cautious With Your Dogs while riding.

Be Cautions With Your Dogs while riding. When riding the e-bikes take into account that they can get up to 20 mph and your dog may not be able to keep up so leaving them at home may be the best option. If you do decide to bring your furry friend be aware there is a lot of wildlife as well as other people with pets in the public land areas so be sure to have your dog on a leash.

  • Be Prepared

Be Prepared for changing weather, terrain, and long stretches of road without access to a restroom, water, or food. If you are going on a longer ride be sure to bring a backpack with all your forseeable needs for the day. If you have concerns about what you should be bringing check out our Adventure Prep for what we recommend or give us a call at the shop to talk with one of our experts. There is no law requiring helmets but it is highly recommended and we provide a helmet with every bike.

  • Other Bikers, Cars, and Pedestrians

Other Bikers, Cars, and Pedestrians will be present on most of the recommended roads and trails.  Remember that on single track trails: uphill traffic has the right of way, so this means step off if you see someone coming on a bike or on foot. On non-single track trails: make sure to leave room for the people on the left of you and for pedestrians walking. Make sure if you are going to pass pedestrians or bikers to check around you for other bikers and pass on the left and then return to the right. There is no law requiring helmets but it is highly recommended and we provide a helmet with every bike.

  • Stay on Designated Trails

Stay on Designated Trails as to not disturb our valleys natural beauty. If you have to step off the trail for any reason, do not ride in the foliage to keep going. We want to keep the surrounding nature pristine!

  • Wildlife is wild!

Wildlife is wild! Please do not bother wildlife if you see them on trails, especially elk or moose. They are wild and can hurt you if you come too close. This is especially relevant with animals with young or when rutting season is happening in the fall. Don’t get close to wildlife or feed them. Also, do not ride in foliage or pick the flowers!
